Time for Sleep

Are you getting enough sleep? With longer daylight hours, we might be more active and get less sleep than is optimal. Our children might be getting less sleep than they need.

According to social scientists, in developed nations, two-thirds of adults fail to get a regular eight to nine hours of sleep per night. Daylight savings time also affects 1.5 billion people when the time changes. In the Northern Hemisphere, we lose an hour of sleep each March. That one hour, just an hour, shows a spike in heart attacks the following day.

A Light to Oneself, A Light to the World

Theme Week 2025

Theme Week 2025
Each spring at Oak Grove School, we take time to pause, reflect, and reconnect as a community through our annual Theme Week, which offers us a chance to revisit and deepen our engagement with the central question guiding our school year. This year’s theme, drawn from the teachings of the school’s founder, is: “A light to oneself, a light to the world.

High School

Service Day

For this semester’s High School Service Day, students participated in a range of projects both on and off campus, each focused on care for the land and community. One group worked in the Oak Grove Food Forest cleaning, trimming, mulching, and collaborating with younger students. Another group headed to the Meiners Oaks Community Garden to assist with weeding and general upkeep of the shared space, while a third group spent the day at the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy’s Meadow Preserve, helping to clean and restore a section of the nursery by removing invasive mustard weeds. Each project gave our high school students the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to their environment while connecting with different parts of the Ojai community.

A Fresh Update from

The Garden Crew

The garden is alive with the joyful energy of spring, and we are so excited to share all that’s been happening in our special outdoor classroom.

We’ve been diving into the world of stinging nettle – learning how to respectfully harvest, dry, and transform it into healing tea. It’s now a proud addition to our growing apothecary of herbs, which the students tend to with care and curiosity.
