You Are The World

A BIT  ABOUT  US

The 5th Grade kids of Oak Grove School like reading Krishnamurti's passages. Krishnamurti is the founder of Oak Grove School. One Wednesday, we read a passage that said, "You are the world and without your transformation, there can be no transformation for the world." We pondered over that and then one student came up with 'expert groups.'

"The world is each one of us; to feel that, to be really committed to it and to nothing else brings about a feeling of great responsibility and an action that must not be fragmentary, but whole."

What all These Things Have in Common:

Now, I bet you're wondering what all of these things have in common, well today’s your lucky day because that's what I am about to explain!

So, the main thing these all have in common is that they all are big causes of global warming/climate change. Deforestation is when lots of trees fall or are cut down. The reason deforestation is a cause of climate change is that when trees are cut down, they stop taking in carbon dioxide and letting out oxygen, also all the carbon dioxide they have taken in is released and let into the atmosphere.

Fossil fuels are what we burn in automobiles and factories. They are a bad greenhouse gas to have in the atmosphere. The reason burning fossil fuels is adding to global warming is that when they are burned it releases greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

Extinction is when all of a certain species is dead. Extinction is sometimes caused by climate change. This is because the animal’s habitats are sometimes destroyed because it gets too hot or cold and the animal does not have enough warmth or cold.

Livestock Industry is where people raise and kill livestock for meat. Livestock Industry has a lot to do with Deforestation. This is because people cut down the land to raise animals.

Ocean Issues is when trash and other forms of pollution get into the ocean. What it has to do with global warming and pollution is that sometimes trash floats down rivers, also people sometimes spill/dump trash or oil into the ocean. The ocean also absorbs a lot of greenhouse gases, and that makes the ocean warmer.
