How many years have you worked at Oak Grove?
Why do you work at Oak Grove?
I work at Oak Grove because I get to be in a beautiful environment, surrounded by like-minded people working to support children to become aware, open-hearted individuals. I can’t think of anything better.
A quote that inspires your approach to your job.
“Work is love made visible.” -Kahlil Gibran
Where is your special spot on campus?
My office has a big window that looks down over the rose garden and the congruence of many paths on the elementary/middle school side of campus. From the second floor, I can watch both the birds in the trees and the kids coming and going. I find it endlessly entertaining to watch the way the kids move. They never walk in a straight line.
Coffee or Tea?
Coffee in the morning. Tea in the afternoon.
What makes an Oak Grove education unique?
I think an Oak Grove education is unique in the way we treat the whole child, including their environment, relationships, and inquiry.
How do we prepare students for their life ahead?
We prepare students for their life ahead by teaching them to connect (to both people and the environment), to act, and to be consciously aware of why they do what they do.
What outdoor experience has been most impactful for you?
Surfing and snowboarding have been the most impactful outdoor experiences for me. In both, I’m always at the edge of my comfort level, always a little afraid. This causes me to remain alert, present, aware. In these moments time stops for me. I’m all there.
The best live music performance/concert you ever attended is …
Willie Nelson. Small theater in Galveston, Texas. Valentine’s Day with my mom.
Name something that nobody knows about you.
I’m pretty much an open book.
Person (dead or alive, famous or not) that you’d most like to share a meal with.
There are too many to pick one! Today I’d choose to sit down with Beryl Markham and Amelia Earhart.
Name a place you’ve always wanted to visit, but haven’t yet.
There are too many to list!
What is your most bizarre OGS experience?
The fact that we get to be here, in this idyllic place, with kind adults and amazing kids, on this planet, in a universe, surrounded by infinity. That’s so bizarre to me.
Share a hilarious OGS experience.
My co-workers are ridiculous, so every day is hilarious.
