From the Head of School

“Take care of myself so I can be there for others.” “Get to know each student well.” “Drink less coffee.” These are some of the intentions written on the hand-cut butterflies that are now displayed next to the staff and faculty mailboxes in Main House. About 10 days before the start of the school year, our employees returned to campus to engage in a week of meetings, in-service training, connecting activities, and preparing the campus for our students.

We made tactical plans for new programs and initiatives, like the intentional start to the new school year, Pastoral Care Time; the scope and sequence of our Sexual Health and Wellness curriculum; and our HS Advisory Program. We also took some time during the week to break into inquiry groups (staff, faculty, and school board members) to look into this year’s theme, The Art of Relationship. We discussed how a focus on relationships can inform our culture as a school. How can we cultivate a culture that puts people first – that fosters trust and connection, empowers people with resources and support, and inspires all learners to actively engage in their own learning?

Here is the provocation we are using for this year’s theme, which is from Commentaries on Living on Love and Relationship:

The Start of the 2021-22 School Year

Take a peek into Oak Grove's "slow start" first few days of school. With the intention of easing into the new year with grace and calm, classes were started with getting-to-know-you exercises, collaborative bonding games, and sharing of academic expectations for the new year.

An Update on the Pavilion

After forty-six years, the Pavilion roof has been restored! Following local building codes and keeping with Krishnamurti's intent to "make it a place of quiet dignity, a sacred place," the new copper roof was expertly crafted, adding a graceful ambiance to the campus.
