Unplug into Nature

Technology keeps us connected in ways not possible during other times in human history. It has saved lives, improved efficiencies, and made for more effective communication. Technology allows us to work remotely, which can have a positive impact on our carbon footprint.

But technology also has consequences. Overuse can be detrimental to our physical health, disrupting our ability to sleep from excessive exposure to blue light, promoting a more sedentary lifestyle, keeping us indoors for longer periods of time where there is poorer air quality, and exposing us to EMFs (electromagnetic frequencies).

Controversial Speeches

email-controv.speeches.thumb-mar22
Oak Grove's High School Juniors present their annual controversial speeches. Each student picks a topic to support, wherein their argument does not necessarily reflect their own personal position. Topics include issues around the benefits of animal testing for product development, eating disorders, palm oil as a major cause of deforestation, and many more.

The video above contains all the speeches and it has chapter markers to easily navigate to each speaker.

Racial & Economic Justice

In collaboration with our Parent Council, Oak Grove supported an on-campus residency with Benjamin Mertz, composer, performer, and song leader who specializes in music of the Black Spiritual tradition. This residency occurred the week of February 21, 2022.

Benjamin is a human rights and racial justice advocate. When not performing music, he writes and speaks on issues of racial justice, economic justice, Black History, and works on creating interfaith and interracial alliances.

Our students of all ages, parents, and staff all had the opportunity to engage with Benjamin throughout his stay.

On Loneliness and Aloneness

April 1-3
An in-person dialogue weekend
email-kfa-mar22
Together in a shared space, we will look at our own loneliness and where it comes from, and all the ways we escape from it. When we truly get in touch with our sense of isolation, perhaps we might discover what Krishnamurti talks about as aloneness, the realization that we are all one.
