From the Head of School

On March 13, 2020, just two days after the World Health Organization determined that COVID-19 was officially a global pandemic, Oak Grove went on remote learning. This began a full year of challenges, including stay-at-home orders, interrupted daily life, heightened political turmoil, and of course, a global pandemic.

This past fall, we were fortunate to receive one of two waivers issued by Ventura County allowing us to have our students on campus. The video below depicts just some of the images we see daily as our students, teachers, and parents navigate learning outdoors – masked, distanced, in rain, wind, and excessive heat, and also in joy, learning, and relationship-building. Enjoy this vivid tribute to our collective resilience.

Controversial Speeches

Do you like chocolate? What’s your pronoun? How do you feel about euthanasia? What’s on your dinner plate? Should we colonize Mars? These are just a few topics of this year’s Controversial Speeches, given each year by our high school juniors. This milestone project allows students to hone their public speaking skills before a live audience. Some students support a topic that they do not personally believe in.

In the speech below, Nicola addresses social media with her own personal story.

Technology keeps us connected in ways not possible during other times in human history. It has saved lives, improved efficiencies, and made for better communication. Technology allows us to work remotely, which can have a positive impact on our carbon footprint.

Attention: The 'be all' and 'end all'

An online, in-depth study program

People often quote Krishnamurti as saying “Consciousness is its content,” but he said more often than not that “Consciousness as we know it, is its content.” Are we the content looking out through consciousness or is this content just information hosted by consciousness, and is it consciousness itself that represents our true essence? In order to consider this question we must first ask another question: “What is attention?”
