High School Showcase Goes Virtual
Like so many annual events that have been adjusted this year, our annual High School Winter Showcase went virtual. Each year, our school community gathers inside a packed house inside the High School Student Center, where student would perform music and dance. Following these student performances (sometimes after a brief dance party), attendees would take a short walk across campus to meet in a spacious Art Studio, enjoy beverages and snacks, and peruse a wide variety of student work including paintings, photography, ceramics, and more.
For the second time (see Spring 2020), this event has been moved online. Music students performed outside in front of a small audience of peers. Filmed for all to enjoy, with a bonus video of the arts at Oak Grove, along to a soundtrack of an original song by a student who is attending school virtually. Similarly, videos and photos highlighting student work in Studio Art, Photography, Woodworking, Theater, and Ceramics can be enjoyed online.
The arts at Oak Grove are emphasized across all grades, and celebrating High School student work twice a year during these annual Showcase events has become a special tradition. Students and teachers have shown resilience and grace during this time. Conducting their classes outside, preparing performances, projects and artwork for this year’s Winter Showcase provided a few extra hurdles to overcome. All part of the art of living and learning.
