LAUNCH: Wednesday, February 28
DAY OF: Friday, March 23 (day before Spring break)

This is a low key volunteer position for 4 or 5 people. Bring your creative and artistic mindset to support this once a year student fundraiser.

Students spend the day reading with classmates and buddies. They raise money by asking for sponsorships from family and friends over the three weeks. This year the funds will go toward “Educational Environments.” We need someone (or a couple people) to chair the event, and about 5 or 6 volunteers to assist at various points over the dates.

Seed Propagation Project – Service Day

Friday, February 16, 2018 (and prior)
8:00am-12:00pm, at the High School

Oak Grove School is supporting our community by propagating seeds to help restore the Ojai Valley’s natural flora. We are an official seed propagator for the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy (OVLC) and are following their guidelines for seed quality and propagation.

Volunteer needs:

  • 10 parent volunteers on February 16th to work with students in building the growing tables, seed preparation, irrigation setup, etc.
  • 3-4 parents for February 14th or 15th, prior to the service day, to saw and drill wood in preparation for student table building. You will need basic carpentry skills and be comfortable using a circular saw.
  • 2 parent volunteers with irrigation knowledge to plan for materials needs and also to show students how to assemble irrigation components.

Materials needs:

  • 6 cordless drivers for student use on February 16
  • 2-3 T-150 staplers
  • 2 metal cutting shears
  • 1 or 2 circular saws
  • 7 5-gallon buckets
  • Work gloves and gardening gloves
  • 10 shovels
  • 8 hand spades
  • 8 milk crates
  • 6 8-to-10 quart buckets with marked measurement
  • 4 wheelbarrows (in addition to what we have at school)
  • 60 black planting “flats” for tables
  • 150-200 1-gallon plant pots (not needed until April)
