Day of Reading Votes OYES
Kicking off Our Student-led Fundraiser
Ahead of this year’s Day of Reading launch, Oak Grove students voted to support the local non-profit Ojai Youth Entertainers Studio (OYES).
Day of Reading is Oak Grove’s annual student-led fundraiser that combines a love for books with a commitment to giving back. The 2025 event kicks off next week, on Tuesday, February 4, with a launch parade and school-wide celebration. It wraps up 10 days later, on Friday, February 14, with an all-school assembly. On the final day, students come to school in their pajamas, carrying a favorite stuffy and book to spend the day immersed in reading and storytelling.
This year, the funds raised by students will primarily support Teaching Tools, a program that directly addresses classroom needs. Contributions to Teaching Tools have previously helped to expand classroom libraries, purchase new equipment for Photography classes, and sponsor special field trips, supporting and enhancing the overall educational experience for students.
Additionally, students chose to allocate 20% of the funds to OYES, a beloved local organization dedicated to fostering creativity and confidence in young people through performing arts. The non-profit offers theatre and musical productions, acting classes, and workshops for young actors, providing a welcoming space where students can explore their talents and build skills in a supportive community. By directing a portion of the funds to OYES, Oak Grove students are supporting opportunities for creativity, self-expression, and collaboration among their peers in the Ojai Valley.
OYES director Daena Santoyo expressed her gratitude, saying: “We are incredibly touched by this news! Truly, our hearts are warmed by this opportunity and recognition by the Oak Grove students.”
This collaboration between Oak Grove and OYES highlights the importance of arts education and the role of community in nurturing young talent. It also reflects the values of Day of Reading, encouraging students to think beyond themselves and contribute to the growth and enrichment of others. Let’s look forward to another successful Day of Reading and the positive impact it will have on both our classrooms and the broader Ojai community.
