Job Summary
Oak Grove School, a pre-K through 12th-grade progressive college preparatory school in Ojai, California is seeking an experienced and accomplished full-time High School History Teacher starting August 2024.
The goal of the Oak Grove History Program is to offer an inclusive, integrated, challenging, college preparatory, and highly engaging academic experience that also reflects the philosophical underpinnings of the school. The Arts of Living & Learning (inquiry, communication, academia, engagement, aesthetics, and care/relationship to self, others, the environment, and the world) inform both curricula and classroom practice.
Responsibilities:
Core academic classes include World History, US History, and ‘Religion, Philosophy, and Ethics’. Additionally, as part of the High School Team, teachers are responsible for one grade level of Advisory class and one additional task, according to the program’s needs. Full-time teachers also help to plan, implement, and participate in camping and backpacking trips and student council activities. They are also part of a community-wide rota schedule designed to support students in the interstitial spaces and care for the school.
Qualifications:
- BA in History or a related field
- Teaching Credential and/or MA in Education or History
- 3 years of teaching experience at the high school level
Qualities:
- Desire to, knowledge of, and joy in working with high school-aged students
- Ability to establish and maintain an effective classroom culture conducive to student learning without the use of rewards and punishment
- Familiarity with a growth mindset, project/inquiry-based learning, core competencies, and authentic assessment
- Self-motivated, self-disciplined, professional, enterprising, and energetic
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with students, parents, and colleagues
- Ability to differentiate in the classroom
- Interest in fostering diversity, inclusion, equity, and social justice to promote a healthy learning environment
- Proven record of developing clear and highly organized yearlong curriculum maps, units, and lesson plans tied to goals/objectives and student expectations
- Active enjoyment of the outdoors. Flexibility to accompany students on multi-day trips.
- Ability to work as part of a close-knit team
- Familiarity with the philosophy of the school (amongst other things an inquiry-based approach to education in a non-competitive atmosphere), and an understanding of progressive education will be an asset
- Interest in continuous personal growth and development
Compensation
Salary range: $65,000-$71,000

Substitute Sous Chef

Do you have in-depth familiarity with the commercial kitchen’s operations? Are you looking for a few days of work here and there throughout the school year? We are looking to hire qualified kitchen substitutes. Our small kitchen team is made up of a head chef, a sous chef, and a dishwasher. On occasion, we need a sous chef sub.
A sous chef sub would support the head chef in lunch preparations at a school that feeds about 200 lunches in one hour. If you think this sounds like a good fit, please apply below.
