“A light to oneself, a light to the world”

Our Theme for the 2024-25 School Year

Each year, Oak Grove selects an annual theme based on the teachings of our founder, J. Krishnamurti, as a provocation for classroom inquiry, professional development for staff, weekly K Discussions, and as inspiration for events like the Annual Fundraising Tea. Our theme for the 2024-25 school year is “A Light to Oneself, A Light to the World.”

“One must be free to be completely a light to oneself. You understand? A light to oneself. And this light cannot be given by another, nor can you light it at the candle of another. If you light it at the candle of another it is just a candle, it can be blown out. But whereas if we could find out what it means to be a light to oneself then that very investigation of it is partly meditation.”

— J. Krishnamurti
Saanen, Switzerland 1976

Theme Week

Each Spring, Theme Week is an opportunity for us, as a community, to circle back to the theme and to, perhaps, deepen our exploration into the intent of the school and the teachings of Krishnamurti.

Dia De Los Muertos

Blog, News
Continuing with what has become a yearly tradition, elementary and middle school Spanish teacher Eva has created a colorful Día de los Muertos altar by the Main House. This week, students have decorated sweets to add to the altar and are also placing photos there of loved ones who have passed away. Also displayed is student artwork created in commemoration of this tradition.

A few pics from our recent 7th and 8th-grade trip to Wyoming`s Teton Science School @tetonnationalpark . Guided by the amazing staff @tetonscience , students and chaperones use cross-country skis, snowshoes, vans, and even a horse-drawn carriage to observe wildlife such as moose, elk, and bald eagles. As with outdoor education program across all grades, our annual field trip to the Teton Science Schools truly embodies the Art of Living and Learning. As one student noted: “During the trip I learned that you should always enter an activity with an open mind.”
