Why We Give

Virginia Downie

At Oak Grove School, students learn without competition. They learn in an environment where teachers call them by their first names, in classes small enough where every voice can seek and be heard.

Students open their hearts to themselves. They learn who they and they come to know and appreciate the self. Not in comparison or competition with others but seeing themselves as a vital part of the whole, the one. Here, students learn to appreciate all persons whoever and wherever they may be.

Our time here is limited, but perhaps if we can help the school to thrive in our own way, then we can trust that our small gifts will be amplified through the larger efforts of the community.

Supporting Oak Grove is easily a priority for us because we have witnessed first hand its impact on our son, his classmates, and the student body; on personal development and critical thinking; on self-confidence, patience, and understanding.

We feel strongly that the world needs more places like this. Krishnamurti talked about education and "the flowering of goodness." That is a perfect way of explaining what we see in the students all around this campus.

Watching our children learn and grow on this campus is something we will forever be grateful for.
