“A light to oneself, a light to the world”

Our Theme for the 2024-25 School Year

Each year, Oak Grove selects an annual theme based on the teachings of our founder, J. Krishnamurti, as a provocation for classroom inquiry, professional development for staff, weekly K Discussions, and as inspiration for events like the Annual Fundraising Tea. Our theme for the 2024-25 school year is “A Light to Oneself, A Light to the World.”

“One must be free to be completely a light to oneself. You understand? A light to oneself. And this light cannot be given by another, nor can you light it at the candle of another. If you light it at the candle of another it is just a candle, it can be blown out. But whereas if we could find out what it means to be a light to oneself then that very investigation of it is partly meditation.”

— J. Krishnamurti
Saanen, Switzerland 1976

Theme Week

Each Spring, Theme Week is an opportunity for us, as a community, to circle back to the theme and to, perhaps, deepen our exploration into the intent of the school and the teachings of Krishnamurti.

High School Mini Projects

Arts, Blog, News
While the high school senior class is visiting our sister schools in India each year, the High School at Oak Grove dedicates two weeks to our "Mini Projects." Teachers lead small groups of students through an in-depth learning experiment into a craft, skill, or concept that piques the curiosities of both teachers and students. Examples have included: screen printing, song writing, sewing, cooking, screenwriting, ornamental mending, and improv.

This week, we joined communities worldwide in reco This week, we joined communities worldwide in recognizing the International Day of Peace. At Oak Grove, we extend this observance into an entire Peace Week, inviting our students and staff to explore the notion of peace in their own lives and in our shared world.

Throughout the week, classrooms wove peace into the curriculum, and students collaborated in creating a Peace Tree art installation – a living reminder that peace requires our collective care. Today, we gathered for an all-school assembly and in our lizard groups to celebrate our reflections together in poetry, play, crafts, art, and music. ☮️
