Supporting Our Children During a Stressful Presidential Election

As we return to school this fall, our students, even the smallest of them, may arrive to us with questions about conversations or news reports they are overhearing about the upcoming presidential election. No matter the political perspectives of the adults surrounding the child, the soundbites are often emotionally elevated.

When one of my family members asked me to explain my quarantine experience in one word, I said “grateful.” I chose this word because quarantine has made me aware of how much I had taken for granted, such as a loving school community, relationships with people, physical touch, fresh produce, my family having stable jobs, nature, and oddly enough, toilet paper!
