In these first few weeks of Garden Class, every grade has already begun creating something special.
First Grade has started decorating their Magical Garden Boxes, where they will collect and store the treasures they make throughout the year.
Second Grade has begun their Garden Grimoires—beautiful brown journals that will hold their garden recipes, discoveries, and treasures.
Third Grade has already been a tremendous help in the Food Forest Garden, trimming plants while taking time to check in with their bodies, their hearts, and their thoughts.
I’ve also had the opportunity to spend time with the Eighth Grade class during PCT. They helped prepare tea for our annual Tea Gathering and created seed-paper bookmarks to give away at the fundraiser. Several high school students joined in, helping to make even more handmade paper for the Tea Gathering.
Gardening at Oak Grove is a living ecosystem—a relationship between the land, the plants, and the people who tend, create, learn, and heal within it. That relationship is always in motion. Materials, knowledge, care, and creativity move from the garden into the classroom, from one pair of hands to another, and from one generation of students to the next.
Every class contributes to the work of another. First graders pull apart marigolds, and high school students sprinkle those same petals into handmade paper. Plants become recipes, remedies, art, and gifts. What begins with one class continues through another, creating a living cycle of connection and shared care.
Nothing in the garden stands alone. Everything we do becomes part of something larger.

Our JV and Varsity volleyball teams kicked off the season last week with plenty of energy and positivity on the court. Over these first few weeks, they’ve been learning their roles, finding their footing, and starting to come together on the court.
