We are parents of three children who have attended Oak Grove School since 2016 (Arya, Brooks, and Eleanor). They have each thrived in their own way as a result of Oak Grove’s unique educational curriculum and emphasis on reflective learning. It is nice to think that they will share this common bond throughout their lives.

Our primary interest in selecting Oak Grove was its philosophical approach to education as expressed in the school’s guiding principles or “Arts of Living and Learning.” We were looking for a school that encouraged students to learn to think for themselves while gaining the confidence and skills to fashion futures of their own making. Oak Grove does this and so much more by creating a welcoming atmosphere for everyone and closely collaborating with each student on their educational journey.

We support Oak Grove because we know just how transformative its education can be for students and the wider world. It is a place where students can learn more than just the content of traditional subjects. They also learn to think deeply about all the related processes of perceiving, communicating, and relating that influence what we know and how we live our lives.

As parents, we feel a responsibility to help the school become even more sustainable as it meets the needs of future families. Oak Grove can be a source of stability and growth for the whole family even in the most turbulent of times like the recent pandemic. We are especially grateful for the connections we have made through class meet-ups, on-campus volunteering, and as members of the Parent Council.

It is concerning that in this historical moment the idea of humanistic education is itself in jeopardy. We hope that our involvement underscores the importance and continued vitality of the education found at Oak Grove.
