The recording includes attending parents’ Q&A.
To make Unplug Day more festive for our students and staff, we are embracing a theme – School Day in 1984. We invite our students to join our staff and dress as if it were the 1980’s! Parent Council will add to our celebration by creating a “1984 Museum” in the Gazebo, where students will see items like VCRs, Reebok high-tops, cassette tapes, and rubix cubes.
Among the many intriguing articles in this month’s edition, we appreciate the thoughtful feature written by Karen Lindell and published in Ojai Magazine.
At Oak Grove School in Ojai, California, we often share moments of silence with our students, from preschool through 12th grade, as a whole community, in small groups, and individually.
On August 28,1963, on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his most famous speech, “I Have a Dream.”

We are always honored to be part of this important community celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who said, “Change does not roll on the wheels of inevitability, but comes through continuous struggle.”
As educators and parents, we have an important role in contextualizing disturbing world events like the recent violent takeover of our country’s capitol. After a year of challenge after challenge, this will require reaching into our deepest reserves of energy and resilience. But we must do what we can to provide a sense of understanding and stability amid chaos. We are obligated to take an active role in building a healthier, more just future.

A book, a poem, singing together, and art projects. Today`s assembly in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. left our hearts full and imagining a more peaceful world.
MLK Day invites us to hold both urgency and hope. History shows us that change is slow, uneven, and often met with resistance. It also shows us that progress is real, that courage multiplies, and that new generations continue to insist on dignity and equity. The question is not whether change is possible, but whether we are willing to participate in it now.
Please join us for Ojai`s 26th Annual MLK Day Celebration on Monday 1/19 at Libbey Park from 10:00am - 1:30pm. The theme for this year is "Building a Beloved Community." Oak Grove`s younger students host a sing-along at 10:30am, and words shared from older students at 1pm.
